Redistribution on Mainnet is Coming Soon → Key Reminders & How to Get Started

Eigen Labs announced Redistribution on testnet earlier in June.

The Redistribution upgrade’s goal is to expand the design space for AVSs beyond punishing bad actors (slash & burn) and provide a means to strategically redirect slashed funds for their use case, which could include compensating harmed parties or rewarding reliable Operators.

How to Get Started

AVSs can begin creating Redistributing OperatorSets on testnet to test the new slashing and the redistribution features. These new types of Operator Sets look and act largely the same as those that were released earlier this year. The slashing flow is modified to use the Redistributing Operator Set’s new field, the redistribution recipient.

We’ve Made a Key Improvement Based on Customer Feedback
Since launching Redistribution on testnet, we’ve actively engaged with our community and customers to gather feedback on the feature’s design. As a result, we’ve made a key meaningful improvement:

  • Introducing Instant Redistribution: After listening to customer input, we’re now offering instant redistribution with no delay period. This change significantly improves the user experience for DeFi and financial use cases by removing timing risks tied to future asset values, like liquidations held in escrow. We took extra precaution in auditing these components internally. To support this no delay model, we strongly encourage AVSs to implement robust monitoring, follow security best practices, and uphold strong governance processes. We believe this update will help drive network growth and enable our users to better serve their own customers.

Mainnet will be here in the Coming Weeks

We are excited for Redistribution to be live on Mainnet in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for when it will become available, but please be advised that AVSs will not be automatically opted into using redistribution on testnet or mainnet. We recommend our community reads our blog post outlining how each user group can prepare for Redistribution here.
